KK man who tried to run over police roadblock jailed a day, fined RM14,500

KOTA KINABALU: A man who tried running over a roadblock while driving under the influence of alcohol was jailed for a day and fined RM14,500 after pleading guilty to the offences in court.

He also had this driver’s licence suspended for two years following the incident, said Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda.

He said the 55-year-old was arrested after he tried to run over a road block mounted near a supermarket along the Tuaran-Inanam road, near here at around 1.05am on Sept 2.

“The driver had crashed into the cones set up for the roadblock and tried to drive off but our policemen caught up with him and apprehended him just 500m into the chase,” he said.

ACP Kasim said the driver was brought back to the police station for investigations, where he failed the alcohol breathalyser.

He was brought to a Kota Kinabalu Magistrate’s Court to face charges under the Road Transports Act 1987, where he pleaded guilty on Oct 10.

The court sentenced the man to a day’s imprisonment, a fine of RM14,500 and had his licence revoked for two years.

“Be careful on the road and do not drink and drive,” said ACP Kasim.
