Mum pleads guilty in baby’s death


JOHOR BARU: A 22-year-old woman pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here for causing the death of one of her newborn baby twins last month.

The woman appeared calm and nodded in understanding as the charge was read out before judge Mohd Zamir Suhaimee.

She was accused of causing the death of a baby girl with the intention of inflicting bodily injury likely to result in death.

The offence allegedly took place at the carpark of Blok Rajawali, People’s Housing Projects (PPR) Melana Indah Phase 2 in Taman Sutera Utama here between 11am and 2.30pm on May 20.

She was charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and a fine upon conviction.

Mohd Zamir fixed July 3 for mention, submission of documents, post-mortem and case facts, as well as sentencing.
