Melaka eyes Johor model for Hindu crematorium

A HIGH-LEVEL delegation from the Melaka government has visited a modern Hindu crematorium being developed in Johor, Malay­sia Nanban reported.

Yayasan Sultanah Rogayah chairman Datuk R. Sugumaran said he was pleased to receive the delegation led by Melaka state exco Datuk Rais Yasin and Shan­mugam V. Pitchay.

The delegation visited the crematorium in Teluk Jawa, near Permas Jaya, to learn more about the services it will provide and better understand the challenges in developing such a facility.

 

> A man in India was killed after being crushed by the wheel of a temple chariot during a procession, Makkal Osai reported.

The youth, identified as Harsh­vardhan from Tamil Nadu, was attending the festival in Namakkal along with thousands of devotees.

He was standing next to a wall when the chariot was making a turn and became trapped bet­ween the wall and the chariot wheel.

Unable to move away because of the large crowd, Harshvardhan was killed on the spot.

Police are investigating the ­incident.
