KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Islamic religious authorities will initiate investigations on the deviant Ahmadiyah Qadiani group, says state minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.
He said the state, through the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains), would start recording statements and open investigation papers on those involved.
Mohd Arifin advised Muslims to always refer to official Islamic religious bodies before taking part in any religious programmes.
“Muslims can refer to the Sabah Islamic Religious Council, Jheains or the state mufti’s office for clarification on related subjects or doubts on any programmes organised by anyone,” said Mohd Arifin, who is Sabah Housing and Local Government Minister.
Meanwhile, Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin said based on their findings, the organisers of the event did not apply to use the school premises for their programme on May 28.
“We will work with Jheains and the police (for the probe).”
On Saturday, a total of 300 people, including 12 leaders believed to be members of the Ahmadiyah Qadiani group, were arrested in an operation at a school in Likas.
The joint operation with the police followed public complaints on activities believed to deviate from Islamic teachings.
