Seat allocation almost done, says Perikatan

JOHOR BARU: Johor Perikatan Nasional has finalised about 80% of its seat allocation for the upcoming 16th Johor election, says Datuk Seri Dr Sahruddin Jamal.

The Johor Perikatan chairman said discussions on the remaining 20% involve seats for the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP), and proposed electoral pacts with other parties, including Muda and Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR).

“Seat allocation is still being finalised, but about 80% has been completed.

“As announced, Perikatan will contest all 56 state seats,” he said, when asked on the coalition’s preparations for the state polls.

Meanwhile, Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zakashi has confirmed that an official notification of the dissolution of the state assembly has been submitted to the Election Commission.

He said the notice was submitted to formally inform the EC of the dissolution, which was consented by Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail on June 1.

The EC had previously said that it would convene a special meeting to discuss key dates for the Johor election once it received official notification on the dissolution from the Speaker.
