‘Man in flag swapping clip left M’sia back in 2016’

KUALA LUMPUR: One of the individuals seen in a video taking down the Malaysian flag and raising the Sabah and Sarawak flags had left the country eight years ago, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain (pic).

The Inspector-General of Police said the main suspect had been identified as a 36-year-old who left the country on Oct 26, 2016.

“Immigration records show that he has not returned to Malaysia since then,” he added.

The police began investigating the video after it went viral. The incident was believed to have occurred in front of the Parliament building in Melbourne, Australia, on Sept 16, which is Malaysia Day.

The video showed a group of individuals taking down the Malaysian flag before raising the Sabah and Sarawak flags half-mast – supposedly symbolising the end of Malaysia’s rule over Sabah and Sarawak.
