A CELEBRATION to consecrate a newly completed 7.6m-tall vel (spear) was held recently at the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Sungkai, Perak, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The vel is the weapon and auspicious symbol of Lord Muruga given to him by his mother Parvathi, according to Hindu mythology.

Hundreds of devotees attended the event, which began in the morning, with a paal kudam (milk pot) procession followed by several ceremonies.

The metal spear in front of the main temple structure was then consecrated and the deity was taken through a procession around the temple.

> The daily also reported that a woman’s headless body was found dumped by the side of a busy highway in India, triggering a massive police hunt.

Passersby, who spotted the partially unclothed body next to a highway in Nagpur, Uttar Pradesh, called the police. No CCTV footage was available nearby.
