PETALING JAYA: Lawyers, businessmen, councillors and village heads are among the 15 candidates offered by MCA in the upcoming Johor state polls.
The party stressed that none of those fielded are newcomers to public service.
“The slate is deliberately composed, drawing from different generations, professional backgrounds, and years of grassroots service, while reflecting MCA's commitment to political succession and pragmatic governance,” it said in a statement on Wednesday (June 24).
13 of the 15, or 86.7% of candidates, added MCA, currently hold or have previously held positions in government or public institutions.
These included former state executive councillors, former assemblymen, officers to the Mentri Besar, municipal councillors and village heads, said MCA, describing its candidates as practitioners of public life.
According to the party, a third of its candidates are under 40 years old, while 80% of them hold at least a university degree.
One in five have a legal background, and a third come from the business sector, it added.
Meanwhile, MCA urged Johor voters to give Barisan Nasional (BN) a strong mandate in the upcoming state polls.
It also said it is entering the contest "to serve, speak for the many and deliver results that reach ordinary families, not just boardrooms".
MCA said that under BN’s stewardship, Johor has recorded GDP growth of 6.4% in 2024, attracting RM110bil in approved investments in 2025, delivering a 42.7% rise in wages and a 12.1% increase in median household income over the past three years.
Barisan will contest all 56 seats in the state polls, with Umno taking on 37, MCA (15) and MIC (4).
