MACC questioned Daim's son without lawyer present, claims his counsel

PETALING JAYA: Tun Daim Zainuddin's son, Wira Dani Abdul Daim, was questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) without the presence of his lawyer, claims his counsel Rajesh Nagarajan.

Rajesh stated that Wira Dani was summoned to the MACC headquarters on Aug 22 to assist in the ongoing probe into Tun Daim.

"Despite having his lawyer present, Wira Dani was denied his right to legal representation," Rajesh asserted in a statement on Friday (Aug 23).

"MACC officers refused our request to accompany Wira Dani, which is a denial of his right to legal advice and representation. This is a flagrant breach of the constitutional rights guaranteed under Article 5(3) of the Federal Constitution."

"Wira Dani was forced to undergo hours of interrogation without his lawyer, a conduct that should not be tolerated," Rajesh alleged.

The lawyer called on the MACC and the Home Minister to provide an explanation and assure that Wira Dani's rights and safety will be protected.
