Customs seizes over 26,000 litres of smuggled beer

BUTTERWORTH: The Penang Customs raided a container and seized 52,800 cans of beer at the North Port in Port Klang after acting upon information received.

Its state director Roselan Ramli said surveillance was carried out for two weeks before the raid was conducted at about 10.30am on May 17.

He said a total of 26,400 litres of beer valued at RM216,480, with unpaid duties amounting to RM785,410.56 were seized.

He said the case is being investigated under Customs Act 1967 and Excise Act 1976.

"The items were declared as office furniture in the Bill of Lading and Import Manifesto," Roselan told a press conference at the state Customs enforcement store at Bagan Jermal here on Thursday (June 6).
