Don’t speculate on incident, says priest after car crashes through PJ church gates

PETALING JAYA: The public has been urged not to speculate on the recent incident where a car drove through the gates of the St Ignatius Church in Kelana Jaya here, causing damage to several tables and chairs.

The parish priest Father Lawrence Ng said the vehicle drove through the church gates and damaged several tables and chairs that were placed in the covered car park area of the church before driving straight into one of the trees within the church compound at about 11.45pm Friday (May 31).

"No one was hurt, but the vehicle was severely damaged.

"The driver appeared unhurt.

"The police and Fire and Rescue Department were at the scene immediately after we made the emergency call.

“The police then directed that the driver be taken to the hospital for examination.

"I have lodged a police report and the police have informed us that they will investigate the matter," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 1).

Ng said he was grateful that there were no casualties.

"I am grateful to all who have shown concern and support.

"In the meantime, I urge all of you not to speculate or disseminate any other information of the incident on social media or in any other form.

"We shall leave it to the authorities to take the appropriate action," he said.
