Rights of every citizen must be respected, honoured, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: The rights of every citizen must be respected and honoured, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"In order for Malaysia to succeed, we must respect and honour the rights of every single citizen. We will not budge even though we were attacked and almost defeated in a few areas. We will continue to uphold our principles," he said.

Speaking at PKR's 25th anniversary celebration on Saturday (May 11), Anwar added that PKR will continue to defend the Constitution to ensure peace and the fair representation of every race in Malaysia.

He then said that PKR members who were elected were picked by the people to bring about change, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He added that they were not elected to find ways to increase their personal wealth.

"Remember the basis of our struggles. Don't use your power to gather wealth, don't use your power and lose your idealism.

"We have been given a mandate to bring about change," he said.

Also present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Others in attendance were Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and PKR advisory council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
