KANGAR: A second gunny sack containing human bones has been found near the site where the first sack was discovered last month.
Kangar police chief Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the latest discovery was made about 31.1m from the first site.
He said they received information about the remains found in a gunny sack at around 12.55pm on Wednesday (Aug 5).
"A 61-year-old trader said he discovered several unidentified bones protruding from a torn gunny sack that was partially buried and covered with undergrowth on Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) reserve land bordering Bohor Mali, Mukim Kayang, Kangar.
"Initial investigations revealed that the man had gone to the land recently purchased by his 29-year-old daughter to carry out clearing works.
"The remains were found at the boundary between his daughter's land and the Mada reserve land.
"Further inspection at the scene uncovered underwear, a pair of torn shorts and a belt near the sack.
"We believe the bones and items had been left at the location for a long time," he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 6).
He said the forensic team measured the scene and found that it was about 31.1m from the location where similar bones were discovered on July 26.
"All evidence was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital Forensic Department in Alor Setar for preliminary pathological analysis.
"The preliminary report is expected within a week.
"Following the latest discovery, the case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"The initial discovery of bones at the nearby site on July 26 has also been reclassified under the same section," he said.
He urged families with missing relatives to immediately contact the nearest police station to assist the investigation.
