MMEA recommends posthumous promotion for seaman killed in Perlis boat chase

GEORGETOWN: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will recommend a posthumous promotion for Maritime Technical Leading Seaman Mohd Roshaimi Mohd Ridzuan.

MMEA director-general Maritime Adm Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah, when met here for the 2026 Media Day celebration, said that the MMEA will forward the recommendation to the Home Ministry.

"As a mark of appreciation and recognition of the service and sacrifice of the late Maritime Technical Leading Seaman Mohd Roshaimi bin Mohd Ridzuan, who was killed while carrying out enforcement duties in the waters off Kuala Sungai Padang, Perlis, on Oct 27.

"The MMEA has submitted a recommendation to the Public Service Department (JPA), through the Home Ministry, for consideration of a posthumous promotion for the deceased, subject to the regulations and approval of the relevant authorities," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the MMEA personnel died after a patrol boat was trapped against a concrete structure during a high-speed pursuit of a vessel suspected of transporting undocumented migrants off Perlis.
