PETALING JAYA: The economy, education and issues affecting the public are among the topics due to be debated and discussed in the upcoming PKR national congress.
In a statement Wednesday, congress director Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said that the 2026 PKR national congress will take place at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, on Aug 15 and 16. The Angkatan Muda Keadilan (PKRY Youth) and Wanita Keadilan congresses will take place a day earlier.
"The theme for this year's congress, 'Revitalising Reformasi, Building Madani', carries profound significance. It calls on members not only to reflect on the spirit of the Reformasi movement that formed the foundation of the party's establishment, but also to strengthen and renew that spirit so that it remains relevant in addressing contemporary challenges.
"The debates will focus on issues affecting the people, including the economy, education and politics. A total of 16 speakers, representing the party's wings and state chapters, will debate the president's policy address.
"The policy address and official opening of the congress will be delivered by party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.
A total of 2,500 delegates and around 3,000 party members are expected to attend the congress, as well as several ambassadors including from the United States of America and Japan.
"Leaders of various political parties have also been invited to witness the strength of Malaysia's unity and the achievements of the Malaysia Madani agenda.
"The congress will serve as a platform to reinforce the commitment and determination of PKR members to remain steadfast in championing the Reformasi struggle, upholding integrity, promoting social justice, supporting the underprivileged and vulnerable, and strengthening national unity and harmony among Malaysia's diverse communities.
"In addition, the Mega Rahmah Carnival, organised by the Melaka branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, will be held to provide direct services to delegates and observers, and will also be open to members of the public in Melaka.
"It is our hope that the congress will create renewed momentum for unity among the party's leaders and members, foster common ground, and strengthen efforts to build a Malaysia that is more dignified, more prosperous and more just for all,” he said.
