PONTIAN: Police have arrested two people during a traffic enforcement operation on motorcyclists here.
Pontian OCPD Supt Hadzrat Hussien Mohd Hussain said the operation codenamed Ops Motosikal was conducted on Saturday and Sunday (Aug 1 and 2).
"The two-day operation was conducted following complaints regarding motorcycles disturbing the peace," he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 6).
He said the areas involved were Jalan Parit Panjang (Gong), Jalan Ayer Baloi/Bukit Batu, Parit Sikom, Jalan Delima (Teluk C) and in Pontian town.
He said 145 individuals and 113 motorcycles were inspected, with 81 summonses issued for various offences and 16 motorcycles seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"The offences include modifying exhausts, no valid driving licenses, riding without crash helmets and non-compliant number plates," said Supt Hadzrat Hussien
He said two individuals arrested – a motorcyclist and a pillion rider – were detained under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
