KOTA KINABALU: An undocumented foreign man was arrested for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl in the Tawau district early Monday (Sept 21).
Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Rosdi Mat Jusoh said in the alleged incident at 4.40am, the girl was awakened by a cat-like sound before realising that a man had entered through her windows.
He said the girl told police that the man had then approached her and went up to her bed but she managed to scream in fear as she tried to fight him off.
“The girl said that she was kicked by the man in the scuffle when he tried to escape the scene,” he said in a press statement Tuesday (Sept 22).
ACP Rosdi said police from the Kalabakan station received a report of the matter at around 9.45am, and immediately sent a team to investigate.
He said a foreigner, 40s, was nabbed not long afterwards near some shoplots.
“The undocumented suspect was arrested and will be investigated under the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017,” he said, adding that the case will be probed thoroughly.
“We will not compromise on any form of sexual offences involving children, or any crime for that matter. Strict action will be taken against all criminals,” said ACP Rosdi.
He advised parents to be more alert and mindful of their children’s safety and to immediately contact police if they suspect or know of any harmful or dangerous incidents.
