Five cops who turned robbers arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Five policemen were among seven people arrested in connection with a robbery case at a condominium here involving total losses of at least RM250,000.

In the incident, which was believed to have occurred in the evening on April 6, a group of men claiming to be police personnel had gone to the condominium along Jalan Tun Razak and demanded that the security guards allow them entry.

They demanded to be taken to one of the floors of the building, which was only accessible via an access card.

It is learnt that upon reaching the floor, they told the security guards to head back downstairs.

They were seen leaving the scene a few hours later.

The owner of one of the condominium units, a foreigner, later approached the security guards claiming that cash and valuables had gone missing.

City police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said police received a report from the man who claimed he lost a watch and cash amounting to at least RM250,000.

“The victim did not suffer any injuries in the incident.

“Following the report, a team from the Wangsa Maju Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested three men at around 11.50pm on Sunday,” he said.

“We then launched a follow up operation and arrested four other suspects who were believed to be directly involved in the case.”

He said based on investigations, five of the suspects arrested were police personnel while one of the suspects is a former policeman.

“The remaining suspect is a public servant. The suspects, aged between 28 and 41, have been remanded.

“We have opened investigations for gang robbery and impersonating a policeman,” he said.

He urged the public to refrain from speculating on the case, which could hinder investigations and lead to public anxiety.
