PETALING JAYA: The Kelantan state government stands ready to defend the Syariah Criminal Offences (Kelantan) Bill 2026 in court against any legal challenges, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan.
Defending the state's legislative mandate, Dr Mohamed Fadzli stated that the administration will not back down if any party chooses to challenge the law, reported Sinar Harian.
"If anyone wants to challenge it, go ahead—we are ready to fight," he declared on Wednesday (Aug 26), reiterating that the state remains steadfast in upholding Islamic law within its constitutional framework,
The stance comes amidst ongoing public debate surrounding the constitutional validity of state-level Syariah enactments, following past legal challenges against similar state provisions.
Dr Mohamed Fadzli emphasised that the state government is fully prepared with legal backing to address any court petitions and ensure the enactment remains enforceable.
