PETALING JAYA: The political developments in Pahang have shown that elected representatives can set aside partisan lines when the stability and welfare of the people are at stake, says Bersatu’s Muhammad Hilman Idham.
In the wake of several Bersatu assemblymen expressing support for the Pahang Mentri Besar, Hilman said the party similarly does not dismiss the possibility of backing Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
“It is not impossible. Bersatu has worked with virtually all political parties before, including Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
“Ultimately, the fundamental consideration must be the interests and well-being of the people,” the Gombak Setia assemblyman told The Star.
Hilman said Malaysians were tired of toxic politics that thrived on hatred and division, and instead wanted governments that could address their concerns and deliver results.
“At this point, what the people want is simply a government, regardless of who holds power, that will protect their interests, address their concerns, and deliver for them,” he said.
He said Pahang could serve as a starting point for a more pragmatic approach to political cooperation, adding that a similar arrangement could be considered in Selangor.
“Politically, PH may not need Bersatu. But if such cooperation were to take place, perhaps the convergence of ideas and perspectives could strengthen and expand programmes and initiatives that ultimately benefit the people of Selangor,” he said.
Hilman added that Selangor residents could benefit from cooperation between Amirudin and former mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
“Amirudin as the current Mentri Besar and Azmin as the former mentri besar — if such cooperation were to happen, the people of Selangor would undoubtedly stand to benefit the most,” he said.
On Wednesday (Aug 26), Kuala Sentul assemblyman Jasri Jamaludin and Lepar assemblyman Yazid Yunus, both from Bersatu, said their decision to support Pahang MB Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail had the backing of Bersatu’s top leadership.
