KUALA LUMPUR: The government will ensure firm and comprehensive follow-up action is taken on the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji, in line with the consent and decrees of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the government's immediate priority was to ensure that action arising from the Tabung Haji RCI report was carried out thoroughly, stressing that the matter was crucial to safeguarding the trust of millions of depositors and protecting the sanctity of Muslims' assets.
"Respecting the authority and processes of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC), the government is prepared to provide its full cooperation if required," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 26).
He said the six-member RCI was made up of highly respected figures whose appointments were consented to by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in July 2021.
"The commission comprised experts from the fields of the judiciary, public administration, banking, Syariah and auditing, ensuring that its investigations and recommendations were carried out independently, professionally, fairly and with integrity, " the statement said.
"The investigation was also backed by the royal consent granted by then Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2021, he added.
Zulkifli said the government also referred to the firm decree by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, on Aug 8, calling for any wrongdoing to be investigated thoroughly and "until the very end".
"Continued calls from various parties since 2019 had underscored the need for absolute transparency in the management of savings entrusted by the Muslim community.
"The government is committed to carrying out this responsibility with the utmost sense of accountability and fear of Allah, while ensuring that every injustice is addressed in accordance with the law," he said.
