Get set for a wet CNY weekend, says MetMalaysia


PETALING JAYA: Malaysians should expect a wet Chinese New Year weekend, with rain and thunderstorms forecasted across states in the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak, this Saturday and Sunday (Feb 10 and 11).

According to a notice by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), peninsular states will experience relatively clear weather on Saturday morning, with thunderstorms and rain expected later in the day.

No rain has, however, been forecast across the northern states of Penang, Kedah and Perlis for both days.

On Saturday afternoon, thunderstorms and rain are forecasted across areas of Pahang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor.

Parts of Sarawak (Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sibu, Kapit, Betong, Sarikei, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri) will experience rain throughout Saturday.

Rain is also expected across parts of Sandakan and Kudat in Sabah on Saturday morning, and the west coast of Sabah and Labuan will experience rain later at night.

On Sunday, similar weather is forecast across the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak throughout the day.

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor late Sunday afternoon.

Rain is also expected in most areas of Sarawak and parts of Pahang, Johor, Sabah and Labuan on Sunday night.
