PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has uncovered suspected cooking oil diversion activity in a raid at a premises in Port Klang, Selangor, involving seizures worth more than RM211,000.
Its enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said the operation, carried out based on intelligence, involved 12 personnel who found a gated business premises believed to have been used to store cooking oil.
The team seized 5,091kg of one-kg packet cooking oil and 5,000kg of liquid suspected to be cooking oil stored in five Intermediate Bulk Container tanks.
Other items seized included two rigid lorries, a forklift, an electronic cutting machine, an electric pump, hoses, related equipment and several mobile phones.
"The total seizure value is estimated at RM211,872.50. Five individuals were also detained to assist investigations, comprising three local men and two foreign men,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Sept 15).
Azman said the case was being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 [Act 122] for possessing controlled goods under circumstances that give rise to reasonable suspicion of an offence.
"Further investigations are ongoing to identify the supply chain, source of the cooking oil, and any other individuals or parties involved in the activity,” he said.
