Part of Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway to close for 45 days for LRT Mutiara Line construction work

GEORGE TOWN: A portion of the road on Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway here will be closed periodically for 45 days starting Wednesday (Sept 16) to facilitate the construction work of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Mutiara Line project in the area.

The Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn (MRT Corp) said the closure will start from 10am to 4pm daily during this period, until Oct 31, for utility relocation and road widening works.

"This closure will involve the leftmost lane on the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway up to the entrance ramp to Gat Lebuh Cecil in front of SMT System Metal Technology Sdn Bhd heading towards Komtar.

"Then the exit to the leftmost lane of the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, starting from Gudang Gat Lebuh Cecil to the entrance to Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of Proton CS Prima, heading towards Komtar and exit to the leftmost lane of the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway from the Gat Lebuh.

"Additionally, the exit to the leftmost lane of Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway -- stretching from the Gat Lebuh Cecil warehouse to the entry point at Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of Proton CS Prima, heading towards Komtar -- and the exit to the leftmost lane of Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway from Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of PYB Tour Coach Sdn Bhd, heading towards Komtar, are included," it said.

In addition, the leftmost lane in front of the Xin Xin Dian Temple to the entrance ramp to Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of the Mutiara LRT construction site, heading towards Bayan Lepas, and the exit ramp from Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of Mama George Town Tomyam heading towards Bayan Lepas will also be closed.

Meanwhile, the entrance and exit ramps at the Gat Lebuh Cecil traffic light intersection heading towards Bayan Lepas will also be closed; however, other routes will remain open to ensure smooth traffic flow.

MRT Corp advised road users to exercise caution when passing through the area. Signboards, traffic cones, and flag marshals will be deployed at the location to assist in controlling traffic and ensuring the safety of vehicle users on that route. — Bernama
