Rebate vouchers available for tourists visiting Perak from February, says state tourism chairman

IPOH: About 4,000 rebate vouchers will be available to tourists here starting February.

Perak tourism committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the vouchers include rebates for hotel stays, tickets and tour packages.

Loh said there are 65 tourism industry players that are participating in the initiative.

"There are three categories for the vouchers, which include tourism products, tour agencies and hoteliers.

"The respective operators will apply for the rebates for the tourists, and it is on a first-come, first-serve basis," he said during the launch of the #promisingperak vouchers at a cafe here on Friday (Jan 19).

"The cost for the vouchers is about RM350,000," he said, adding that the initiative will run until January next year.

Loh said the vouchers were meant to be incentives to boost the tourism industry in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2024.

"I understand that a similar initiative was implemented in 2020 to support industry players to attract tourists during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We will start off with 4,000 vouchers first and will see whether they are well received," he said.

"If people feel the vouchers are not needed, then we will not continue with it," he added.

Tourism Perak Management Bhd chief executive officer Nurmalis Musa said for tourists to be entitled for the RM150 rebate, they needed to spend a minimum of RM500 in a single receipt on a tour package.

"They also need to stay for three days and two nights.

"At participating hotels, tourists must stay at least a night to get the RM70 discount," she said.

"As for tourism products like Kellie's Castle or Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No 5, tourists with families can save RM30 from ticket purchase," she said, adding that more information on all participating operators can be found on the Tourism Perak website starting next month.
