Comm Mohd Alwi appointed new Perak police chief


IPOH: Former Penang deputy police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin has been appointed as the new Perak police chief.

He succeeds Comm Datuk Comm Noor Hisam Nordin, who has been appointed as the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director.

The duty handover ceremony was witnessed by Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

A handover ceremony for the state Police Family Association (Perkep) chairmanship was also held between Datin Wan Norazah Wanchik and Datin Noormawati Abdul Latip.

Comm Noor Hisam served as Perak police chief for one year and three months, while Comm Mohd Alwi was in Penang for two years and one month before his latest appointment.

In his speech, Comm Noor Hisam expressed his appreciation to the department heads and personnel of the state police contingent for their cooperation.

He also thanked the police leadership for entrusting him with his new role and pledged to carry out his responsibilities with full dedication.

Comm Noor Hisam previously held several key positions, including Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department head in Pahang.

He also served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Ground Operations at the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).

Speaking at a press conference after the ceremony, Comm Mohd Alwi said he was a native of Pusing, Perak.

He joined the police force on April 28, 1991, and served in Sabah for 10 years during his career.

Comm Mohd Alwi also previously served as the Bukit Aman Management Department deputy director for services and establishment.

In 2024, he was appointed Penang deputy police chief.

He had also served in Perak for six months in 2021 as the state’s head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department.

Comm Mohd Alwi said his previous experience would help him carry out his duties effectively as the state’s new top cop.
