Man drowns while fishing at Sungai Tebrau


JOHOR BARU: A 39-year-old local man has drowned while fishing at Sungai Tebrau here.

Tebrau Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Shahril Sapar said they received a call about the incident in Kangkar Tebrau at 12.42pm on Sunday (Sept 17).

"Fifteen firemen were deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call about the incident.

"We conducted a skin dive in search of the victim. He was found about five metres from the location where he was last seen.

"The man is believed to have drowned while fishing in the river," he said in a statement.

He added that the victim was found at 3.35pm and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed that the police have received a report on the case.

He added that the victim has been identified by his family members.
