Syed Saddiq urges Pulai voters to come out to cast their ballots

JOHOR BARU: With polling for the Pulai parliamentary by-election ending within the next few hours, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is urging voters to come out and vote.

The Muar MP said that he had just returned from an Asean youth leaders summit in Jakarta before arriving at SK Taman Sutera here to cast his vote with his family.

"I hope that with two to three hours remaining, voters in the Pulai parliamentary constituency will come out and pick an elected representative that would voice out the rakyat’s issues in Parliament," he added.

Syed Saddiq said this when met after casting his vote at the polling centre here on Saturday (Sept 9).

He was asked to comment on the lower voter turnout on polling day in the Pulai parliamentary by-election.

When pressed on which candidate he had chosen, Syed Saddiq said that the vote was a secret.

"We cannot campaign on polling day as it is the rule but it is my responsibility to make sure I come out and vote for a candidate who has integrity and honour that will uphold the people’s rights rather than narrow politics," he said.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission said that the number of people who had voted as of 3pm Saturday was 38% for Pulai and 51% for the Simpang Jeram state seat.

Pulai has a total of 166,653 voters while there are 40,488 voters in Simpang Jeram.
