KUCHING: Sarawak will pay serious attention to audit reports through its Ombudsman institution, says Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
He said this was part of efforts to improve governance and integrity in government agencies.
"Sometimes they don't take heed of the weaknesses indicated in audit reports.
"Therefore in Sarawak, we will train integrity officers placed in agencies that drive our development," he said at the Sarawak construction industry's integrity and excellence day here on Thursday (Aug 6).
The Sarawak Ombudsman was set up in 2024 to provide for proper administration and measures against maladministration by public service agencies.
Abang Johari also said Sarawak will continue to strengthen good governance as integrity is a strategic advantage in the global economy.
"As Sarawak implements various development projects, good governance is increasingly important.
"Nowadays, investors not only look at physical amenities. They also assess institutional strength, transparency, stable policies and the integrity of an investment destination," he said.
Meanwhile, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said it was important to remind the construction industry to uphold integrity, discipline and transparency.
"Construction is a key sector in the nation's development because it is closely related to development," he told reporters after the event.
He said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) will continue to strengthen the sector with greater professionalism, integrity and accountability.
