PETALING JAYA: Ex-Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar will be taking a break from her duties as PKR deputy president after the party's congress next week.
PKR information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said Nurul Izzah initially wanted to resign from the post, but was persuaded to take a break from the role instead.
Fahmi said that PKR's central leadership council had decided to allow her to take a break from her duties during a meeting on Thursday (Aug 6).
"The meeting discussed the request by Nurul Izzah to step down from the position of deputy president and, on hearing her views of the leadership, the council has agreed to grant her a temporary leave of absence which will commence after the 2026 National Congress indefinitely," Fahmi said.
He said PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail would temporarily assume the duties of the deputy president.
Fahmi added that the council accepted and respected the results of the Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections and expressed its gratitude to the teams that worked tirelessly during the elections.
"The council extended its appreciation to former Negri Sembilan menteri besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun for his outstanding service over the past two terms," he said.
Fahmi said the council also agreed that PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari would assume the role of the party's election director.
As for the 2026 national congress, he said Nurul Izzah would officiate the Women’s Wing and Youth Wing congresses on Aug 14.
He said the council has also approved the admission of 3,533 new members who registered their membership online between July 12 and August 2026.
