Senior citizen killed, six hurt in Kluang crash

KLUANG: A man in his 60s was killed and six others suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash along Jalan Ladang Sindora in Ulu Belitong, Renggam.

Renggam Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Nizar Ma’mun said the department received a distress call at 3.38pm on Friday (Nov 6).

He said six firefighters arrived at the scene, about 19km from the station, at 3.55pm.

There were four people in an MPV driven by the victim, while a 23-year-old man was driving a sedan carrying two passengers.

Mohd Nizar said firefighters extricated the MPV driver from the vehicle, while the sedan's occupants had already been helped out by members of the public.

“The injured victims were given initial treatment before being handed over to Health Ministry personnel and taken to hospital,” he said in a statement.

He said the MPV driver was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene and his body was handed over to the police for further action.

The three passengers in the MPV – Zilaiha Hanafi, 54, a woman in her 20s and an eight-year-old girl – suffered minor injuries.

The sedan driver, identified as T. Punithaarajan, 23, and his passengers, T. Jiveethaa, 34, and another woman, also suffered minor injuries.

The operation ended at 5.45pm.
