KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree and pardoning powers should be respected, says Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (pic).

The Umno secretary-general said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had already made a decision on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's house arrest.

"Respect the decree and pardoning powers of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under Article 42(1) and 42(2) of the Federal Constitution.

"His Majesty, through the Pardons Board, has already made a decision and stipulated conditions which have since been fulfilled.

"Why is there still a need to delay the implementation of house arrest after the fine has been fully paid?

"Any attempt to delay the implementation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree and the Pardons Board's decision amounts to an act of defiance and a violation of rights guaranteed under the Constitution," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 6).

Earlier, the Attorney General's Chambers said the house arrest for Najib should be postponed for the time being.

"This temporary deferment is not intended to question or set aside the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"Rather, it is to ensure that the decree and the related court orders are implemented accurately, in an orderly manner and in accordance with the correct legal position," it said in a statement on Friday.
