Let rape victims decide, says activist

PETALING JAYA: A doctor’s examination or lodging a police report – the choice should be left to rape victims to decide upon arriving at hospitals, says women’s rights activist Meera Samanther.

Meera, who is also a committee member with the Association of Women Lawyers (AWL), said rape victims should be treated with compassion, and forcing them to relive the traumatic experience by writing a police report immediately after would emotionally affect them.
