NGOs urged to tap national women’s policy funds, says Nancy

KUCHING: Women’s non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can apply for funding under the National Women’s Policy’s four thrusts of economy, leadership, safety and wellbeing, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said NGOs could select programmes or grants that match their niche areas but urged them to submit applications before the closing date.

She said the Sinergi Kasih Wanita one-day programme, held here on Thursday (April 9), brought together 300 participants from NGOs across Sarawak to learn about the ministry’s programmes and services under the five-year policy launched last year.

“Through these programmes, NGOs can apply for funding to carry out their activities,” she said.

Nancy also encouraged more Sarawakian women to sign up for the Perantis leadership training programme, which offers successful applicants a RM50,000 grant to train other women.

Other initiatives include Skuad Waja, which addresses bullying and sexual harassment, and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda to incorporate women’s voices in peace and national security discussions.

“My vision for Malaysian women is clear. I want to see more women step forward as leaders, be financially independent and break the glass ceiling.

“There is no limit to what women can achieve. Our collective task is to ensure that the way forward is open wide to all,” she added.
