Melaka flood evacuees drop to 800 as of 5pm Sunday


MELAKA: The number of flood victims in Melaka has dropped to 800 people from 266 families as of 5pm on Sunday (July 12), compared to 983 people from 312 families as at 8am on Sunday morning.

The Social Welfare Department's Info Bencana portal reported that all affected victims are being accommodated at six temporary relief centres (PPS) in the state, with four centres located in the Melaka Tengah district, and one each in the Alor Gajah and Jasin districts.

According to the portal, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tehel in the Jasin district is a newly opened PPS, currently housing 31 victims from 11 families.

In the Melaka Tengah district, a total of 519 victims from 175 families are still sheltered at SK Tanjung Minyak 2, while SK Taman Bukit Rambai accommodates 178 victims from 53 families.

At the Dewan Japerun Pantai Kundor, there are 44 victims from 18 families, while 23 victims from eight families are being housed at SK Bertam Hulu.

Meanwhile, in the Alor Gajah district, five victims from one family are staying at the Kampung Jeram Community Hall (Balai Raya), while the relief center at the Bangunan Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (Perkim) Masjid Tanah was closed at 3pm on Sunday.

According to the portal, the total breakdown of victims involved consists of 537 adults, 249 children, and 14 infants. — Bernama
