Malaysians in Qatar told to follow security instructions after fresh US-Iran attacks

The Malaysian Embassy in Doha on Sunday (July 12) urged Malaysians to stay alert to their environment at all times.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians in Qatar are told to comply with security instructions issued by the authorities there following fresh United States and Iranian strikes.

The Malaysian Embassy in Doha on Sunday (July 12) urged Malaysians to stay alert to their environment at all times.

"Please comply with security instructions issued by Qatari authorities from time to time and be sure to only obtain information from verified sources,” said a notice on its official Facebook page.

The embassy also advised those journeying from or through Qatar to refer to the latest flight schedules to avoid disruptions.

Malaysians requiring consular assistance may contact the embassy’s 24-hour hotline at +974-3374 6733 or e-mail mwdoha@kln.gov.my.

On Sunday, the US military launched its third wave of strikes on Iran this week, after the Iranian military opened fire on a ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz and announced a closure of the waterway, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

The media also reported that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy on Sunday announced that the Strait of Hormuz would be closed until further notice.

It stressed that the strategic waterway would remain closed until US interventions in the region end, adding that no vessels would be allowed to pass.

In June, Tehran and Washington signed a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war that began in late February and paving the way for a lasting peace agreement.

The memorandum called for an immediate end to fighting on all fronts, the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iran, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the agreement, the two sides exchanged attacks this week over the passage of commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. — Bernama
