Labourer fined RM6,500 for verbally abusing, kicking police officer on duty

MACHANG: The Magistrates' Court here on Sunday (July 12) fined a labourer RM6,500 for verbally abusing and kicking a police officer on duty during a raid in Kampung Laklok two weeks ago.

Mohamad Ariff Hakimi Che Ghani, 26, had entered a guilty plea after the charge was read out before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.

He was accused of intentionally obstructing Sub-Insp Mohmad Zulkifli Mat from carrying out his official duties by uttering abusive words before kicking the officer at about 8.15pm on June 27.

The charge was brought under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to two years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Asma'a Che Omar appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Nor Husniza Akmal Husain from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

Before imposing the sentence, Magistrate Rais Imran reprimanded the accused for verbally abusing and obstructing a police officer on duty.

He then fined Mohamad Ariff Hakimi RM6,500, or nine months' jail in default of payment. The accused paid the fine. — Bernama
