Toddler dies, mother injured in Bukit Mertajam crash


BUKIT MERTAJAM: A mother carrying three of her children on a motorcycle was seriously injured and her two-year-old son died after the vehicle crashed into a stone wall.

The incident occurred along Jalan Song Ban Kheng here at about 7.45am on Friday (Apr 24).

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Asst Comm Helmi Aris said the motorcycle had gone out of control, skidded and hit a roadside stone divider.

The 30-year-old local woman and her two-year-old boy both suffered head injuries.

The toddler was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Bukit Mertajam Hospital.

A seven-year-old child sustained minor injuries while a five-year-old was unhurt.

The mother was believed to have been sending her older children to school at the time of the accident.

Those injured are being treated at the same hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the JPJ Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
