Abdul Halim appointed as new MACC chief


PETALING JAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia has consented to the appointment of Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the appointment is effective from May 13.

Shamsul Azri said the appointment follows a proposal presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the King.

"The appointment was made in accordance with Subsection 5(1) of the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694)," he said in a statement on April 25.

The Government is confident that his extensive experience and high integrity will help strengthen governance and enhance public confidence.

The statement added that he is expected to intensify anti-corruption efforts in the interest of the nation.

The current MACC chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, 63, was appointed to the position on March 9, 2020.

His contract is expected to expire next month on May 12.
