KUALA LUMPUR: Outgoing Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani insists there was nothing unusual in the change of leadership in the police force.

He said the Prime Minister had even offered him a post-retirement plan when he had expressed his desire to retire.

"I was surprised by the kindness shown by the Prime Minister to me and my family.

"Believe that there is nothing unusual in the changing of leadership within the police force. Coincidentally, the situation led me to end my tenure (as IGP) earlier," he said in his speech after handing over the duties of IGP to his successor Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

Acryl Sani said he is leaving the police force with an open heart as he believed those still serving will be able to elevate the police force to greater heights.

"Always remember our slogan 'Sedia Berkhidmat' (Ready to Serve) and that the police and society are inseparable," he said.

The former top cop went on to describe his last day as IGP as bittersweet.

"I am sad because I could not meet as many compatriots as I can before I retire.

"Trust that everyone will always remain in my heart. As the saying goes, we will not be here forever but our work will never end," he said.

The handing over ceremony was witnessed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Razarudin also handed over the duties of Deputy IGP to Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay during the same ceremony held at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol).
