Inspector among 10 GOF members held in Penang e-waste factory extortion probe

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten General Operations Force (GOF) personnel, including an Inspector, have been detained to assist investigations into an alleged extortion case involving an e-waste factory in Penang.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) deputy director Comm Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said all 10 personnel were attached to the Second Battalion PGA in Kulim, Kedah.

He said those detained were aged between 30 and 40, with the highest-ranking officer being an inspector and the lowest-ranking a constable.

“The case is still under investigation, and investigating officers from the Penang police will take further action.

“Police will not compromise with any officer or personnel involved in criminal activities,” he said at a press conference at Bukit Aman on Friday (Aug 21).

Comm Muhammad said the investigation was being handled by Penang police.

However, he did not disclose the individual roles of the personnel detained or the amount allegedly involved in the extortion case.
