Anwar writes to Prabowo over Felda investment issue in Indonesia

BANGI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he sent an official letter to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto seeking special attention to the Federal Land Development Authority's (Felda) investments in the country, particularly the issue involving PT Eagle High Plantations Tbk (EHP).

He said the move was prompted by the potential for financial losses of up to RM2.5bil stemming from decisions made by the previous management, with expected returns now likely to be only around RM200mil.

"This investment (EHP) is subject to court proceedings in Indonesia. I have written to President Prabowo Subianto asking him to look into the matter. If it is not addressed, we could potentially lose RM2.5bil and recover only RM200mil," he said.

According to news reports, Felda has yet to recover the money as EHP is still contesting it in the Indonesian courts.

Anwar said this during a meet-and-greet session with Felda's senior management and managers at Hotel Tenera in Bangi on Friday (Aug 21).

Also present were Felda chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir and director-general Datuk Dr Suzana Idayu Wati Osman. – Bernama
