PETALING JAYA: Rapid KL will operate all its rail services and selected bus routes around the clock from Aug 30 to 31 for the National Day celebrations.
The 24-hour operations will cover all Rapid KL rail services, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and KL Monorail, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad said in a statement on Friday (Aug 21).
“To cater to the increase in passenger numbers, train frequencies will be increased on several major routes and adjusted based on demand and current conditions at stations.
“Additional trains will also be deployed if necessary based on passenger numbers and congestion levels at platforms,” it said.
The Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), selected bus routes and Rapid KL On-Demand services will also operate for 24 hours during the period.
Rapid KL said the extended operations were aimed at facilitating public movement for the Merdeka Eve celebrations on Aug 30 and the National Day celebration in Putrajaya the following morning.
It will also deploy 103 buses to provide free feeder services along two routes for those travelling to the celebration venue in Putrajaya.
The MS01 route will operate between Putrajaya Sentral station and Jalan Tun Abdul Razak in Precinct 2 from 2pm on Aug 30 until 2pm on Aug 31.
The MS02 route will operate between the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) and Jalan Tun Hussein in Precinct 3 from 4am to 2pm on Aug 31.
“The free feeder bus services are aimed at making it easier for the public to access the celebration area, while reducing dependence on private vehicles and helping to ease traffic congestion around Putrajaya,” it said.
More than 5,000 frontline personnel from various units will also be deployed in shifts on Aug 30 and 31 to support operations, manage crowds and ensure passenger movement at stations and key locations remains smooth and safe.
Rapid KL encouraged the public to use public transport to travel to the National Day celebration.
“Passengers are also advised to plan their journeys early, ensure there is sufficient balance in their Touch 'n Go cards and comply with instructions from personnel, particularly at stations and areas with high passenger density,” it said.
