Over 60,000 used Shah Alam Line on first day of operations, says Rapid KL

KUALA LUMPUR: The new Shah Alam Line recorded more than 60,000 passenger journeys on its first day of operations on Monday (June 29), reflecting strong public acceptance of Rapid KL's newest rail line.

In a statement Tuesday (June 30), Rapid KL said the figure comprised the total usage of the Shah Alam Line network, including train services, feeder buses and Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD).

“A total of 58,865 journeys were made on the train service,” said Rapid KL.

“Another 3,319 journeys were made through Rapid KL's first-and-last-mile network, which consists of 1,883 journeys on feeder buses and 1,436 journeys via the ROD service.

“The strong response on the first day of operations demonstrates robust demand for the new mobility option.

“It not only reflects public confidence in the Shah Alam Line but also highlights the need for a rail network connecting residential areas, employment centres, educational institutions and commercial hubs across Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang," it said.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd group president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the encouraging response was a positive sign of public acceptance of the new line.

"More than 60,000 journeys on the first day show that the public genuinely needs better public transport options in the western Klang Valley corridor,” he said.

“This is a very encouraging start. We will continue to monitor passenger travel patterns, operational performance and user feedback to ensure the travel experience continues to improve as more people begin using the line," he added.

Rapid KL also mentioned they have deployed operations personnel, station staff and Rapid Troopers at all Shah Alam Line stations to assist passengers with travel information and help utilise the transport facilities.
