Man nabbed over threatening Facebook post, sword seized

KANGAR: Police have detained a 46-year-old man over a viral social media post where he allegedly threatened to injure an individual with a sword.

Perlis acting police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Zaihairul Idrus said the Kedah-born suspect was detained in Langgar on Sunday (Aug 16) after authorities received a report regarding a threatening post on the "SAYA ANAK PERLIS” Facebook page.

He will be remanded for three days starting Monday (Aug 17).

"Police recovered the sword shown in the viral post from the suspect’s vehicle during the arrest.

"The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, Section 507 of the Penal Code for anonymous criminal intimidation, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” SAC Zaihairul said in a statement.

He added that the threat was believed to be linked to a personal dispute.

SAC Zaihairul also stressed that police would take firm action against anyone who violated the law or attempted to provoke tensions and disrupt public order. – Bernama
