45 animal horns worth about RM5,000 seized at Penang airport


PETALING JAYA: Authorities seized 45 units of items believed to be animal horns after an Indonesian passenger was stopped at the Bayan Lepas International Airport in Penang.

The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said that the seizure was made on Aug 20 after inspecting the bag of a 57-year-old man who had landed from Guangzhou, China.

"Around 45 suspected animal horns, worth approximately RM5,000, were seized. All items have been handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) for further action.

"The AKPS reiterates its commitment to strengthening partnerships between agencies to combat all forms of cross-border crime, particularly wildlife smuggling at the country’s entry points," it said In a statement on Saturday (Aug 22).
