Sabah's GLC Qhazanah to have anti-graft officer to ensure integrity and transparency

Qhazanah Sabah Berhad chairman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob outlining directions of the state owned GLC during a press conference in Kota Kinabalu.

KOTA KINABALU: Qhazanah Sabah Berhad will be the first state-owned government linked company (GLC) to have anti-graft personnel in their office, says its chairman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob.

Dr Yusof, who took over as chairman of Qhazanah on Jan 11, said it was part of his measures to create "integrity and transparency" for the organisation in building trust with their stakeholders and investors.

He said the officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will help guide them to ensure the operations of the company with 11 subsidiary companies as well as to act professionally and transparently in their dealings.

"We have restructured our subsidiary companies by putting the right people in the right place," he said, adding that the key focus was "good governance" through the setting-up of an Integrity and Governance Unit as well as Policy and Monitoring Unit.

Dr Yusof took over the chairman post from Sabah Barisan Nasional-Umno Usukan assemblymen Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Mohd Said, who was sacked by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

This came after Sabah Barisan's bid to topple Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor's government on Jan 5, this year.

Dr Yusof said that the restructuring within the group of companies was to strengthen the RM1bil state-owned company to be more profitable.

He said that he was looking at creating more revenue for the company while also playing a role for the state government in education, health and employment for the B40 as well as working to boost energy needs through green energy projects.

Among his immediate agenda was to broaden their business in the medical area where its subsidiary, WH Medicare Sdn Bhd, would look at setting-up hospitals as well as getting more clinics to provide healthcare for people outside main towns.

Qhazanah also is looking at developing renewable energy plants to help the state meet the power needs," said Dr Yusof, who is Sindumin assemblyman, who left Parti Warisan to join Hajiji's Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah.

Other plans include strengthening its digital infrastructure development in Sabah under the Jalinan Digital Negara (Jendela) programme undertaken by its subsidiary Common Tower Technologies Sdn Bhd (CTTSB).

"We aim to help Sabah entrepreneurs, open up more employment opportunities, and help in scholarships through Yayasan Qhazanah Sabah.

"We aim to help the B40 group through insurance and health programmes that will directly assist them," he added.
