KUALA LUMPUR: The official results for Umno wings' elections will only be announced on Monday (March 13) morning, says Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
The Umno election committee chairman said this was because several divisions had yet to submit their results.
"As of 8pm, we have yet to receive the results from eight or nine divisions," he told reporters at the Umno headquarters here on Sunday (March 12) night.
However, he said the results of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings were considered to be finalised.
Datuk Noraini Ahmad defended her post as Wanita Umno chief with 108 votes, beating former Wanita chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who secured 71 votes as of 8pm Sunday.
Dr Akmal Saleh won the Youth chief post with 119 votes, while his contender Mohd Shahar Abdullah had 50 votes.
For the Puteri wing, Datuk Nurul Amad Mohd Fauzi led with 86 votes, followed by Datuk Khaidirah Abu Zahar with 32 votes.
Shahrir also confirmed that the committee had received complaints from the Kuala Kedah division over its Wanita wing results.
He said the results would be finalised before Friday (March 17), following an agreement with the party's state liaison.
Earlier on Sunday, it was reported that the division's election was put on hold after it was found that the total votes received did not tally with the number of representatives present.
Kedah Umno secretary Datuk Ariffin Man said an objection was received from one of the candidates regarding the matter.
The division election committee found that 570 ballot papers were received after the voting process but there were only 521 delegates present at the Wanita wing's meeting on Saturday (March 11).
On a viral video that allegedly took place at the party's Titiwangsa division, Shahrir said the committee had yet to receive an official complaint from the division.
"The committee will wait until Tuesday for any individual to file a complaint.
"If there's none, we will take action against those who took the video and uploaded it to social media, which has created unnecessary speculation," he added.
The video appeared to show some ballots being hidden, resulting in a ruckus at the voting centre.
