Noraini to return as the Wanita Umno chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad has returned as the Wanita Umno chief for the new term.

The wing's secretary Datuk Rosni Sohar said that unofficial results showed that Noraini secured 106 votes from 191 divisions across the country, beating Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

The Wanita Umno wing saw an intense fight earlier with Noraini leading a slim majority against Shahrizat.

Shahrizat first became the Umno Wanita wing chief in 2009 but chose not to defend her post in the 2018 Umno polls, saying she wanted to let its younger members lead and handpicked Noraini to be her successor back then.

However, official results shown at the party headquarters stated that Noraini secured 48 votes while Shahrizat won 31.
