Another student killed in crash while returning from RXZ gathering


DUNGUN: A female student from a private higher education institution was killed after the motorcycle she was riding crashed into a four-wheel-drive vehicle at KM356 of the East Coast Expressway 2 near Bukit Besi here on Sunday (Aug 2) evening.

Dungun OCPD Supt Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said that in the 4.55pm incident, Arissa Shazzira Zainudin, 21, from Kuantan, Pahang, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.

He said the accident occurred while the victim was on her way home after attending the RXZ Members 8.0 programme at the Gong Badak Racing Circuit in Kuala Nerus.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when the victim crashed into the rear of a four-wheel-drive vehicle that had stopped in the emergency lane for a rest.

“As a result of the incident, the victim was thrown onto the middle of the road,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Supt Nik Ab Halim said the victim’s body was taken to the forensic unit of Dungun Hospital, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
